Internet Speed Test

Your browser exchanges data of several sizes directly with Cloudflare's public test servers (speed.cloudflare.com) to calculate download and upload speed, ping, and jitter. Nothing passes through our own server, so no results are stored.

The methodology is similar (sending multiple chunks in parallel to estimate bandwidth), so results are usually close, but the test server location and momentary network congestion can shift the numbers by a few Mbps.

Yes. Despite the name, it actually measures the speed of whatever internet connection your device is currently using, so it works the same on wired LAN or mobile data (LTE/5G).

Ping is the round-trip time (in ms) for data to travel between your device and the test server, while jitter measures how much that round-trip time varies. Lower ping and smaller jitter matter most for real-time tasks like online gaming or video calls.

Even on the same network, the number of connected devices, distance and interference from your router, congestion on your ISP's network, and the route to the test server all vary from moment to moment, so results naturally fluctuate. For a fair comparison, try testing at different times of day.

Download speed matters more for everyday browsing, streaming, and downloads, while upload speed matters more for video calls, cloud backups, or live streaming where you're sending data out. Most home connections are provisioned with much faster download than upload speeds.

Your location is a rough IP-based estimate that can be off by anywhere from a few to several dozen kilometers, and the test server location approximates the city of the Cloudflare data center using that city's airport coordinates. Treat the straight-line distance between the two as a rough reference, not the actual network path.
