How the teams are made
Balance, keep apart, rolesThe generator shuffles the whole list at random, then places people one at a time on whichever team currently has the fewest members. However many times you shuffle again, no team ends up more than one person larger than another, and who lands where is decided fresh each time. All of the shuffling happens in your browser, and the list is never sent anywhere.

How to use
Type a name in the Names box and press Enter. A list separated by commas or line breaks, like one copied from a group chat, can be pasted all at once.
Under How to split, choose to split by number of teams or by team size and set the number. The ↑ ↓ keys work too.
Pick the roles to assign on each team. Tick Leader or Treasurer if you need them and add your own, or leave them all off to make teams only.
If some people must not be on the same team, turn on the switch and pick their names from the list to make a group.
Press "Make teams" (Ctrl+Enter, or ⌘+return on a Mac) to see each team and its roles, then use "Copy result" to paste it into your group chat.
