Quality and image size

For one A4 page

Text and shapes in a PDF are vectors with no fixed pixel size, so turning a page into a JPG means choosing how many dots go into each inch (dpi). Double the dpi and the width and height in pixels double too, while the file grows about four times. Picking the lowest quality that suits the job keeps files easy to send and light on storage.

Light 96 dpi, the same size as the page at 100% zoom on screen. Good for sending in a chat app or as a quick preview 794 × 1123 px
Standard 150 dpi, sharp enough to read small print on screen. The default that works for most uses 1240 × 1754 px
Sharp 300 dpi, the resolution print shops and photo labs use. Pick it when the images will be printed or zoomed in on 2480 × 3508 px
Very large pages such as posters are scaled to stay within the 16 million pixels a browser can handle

The conversion draws each PDF page as a picture inside your browser and saves it as a JPG at 90% quality, so the original PDF is never changed or uploaded. JPG has no transparency, so pages with an empty background come out on white paper, and text in the JPG becomes part of the picture and can no longer be selected or copied. Files are named after the original with the page number added, like "report-03.jpg", so they sort in order.

How to use

1.

Click "Choose PDF" or drop PDF files onto the page. You can add several at once. Ctrl+O (⌘+O on a Mac) opens one too.

2.

Leave Pages on All pages, or pick Some pages and type the pages you want, like "1-5, 8". With several PDFs, every page of each file is converted.

3.

Choose a quality: Light (96 dpi), Standard (150 dpi) or Sharp (300 dpi). The estimated size shows next to the button.

4.

Press "Convert to JPG" (Ctrl+Enter, or ⌘+return on a Mac) and a JPG for each page appears one by one.

5.

Save them all in one ZIP with "Download all" (Ctrl+S), or save single images with the ↓ button on each.
