Image Rotate & Straighten

Straighten a tilted photo in 0.1° steps, turn it in 90° steps and flip it on one screen with this free image rotate tool. A grid helps level the horizon, and empty corners can be cropped or filled. Photos stay in your browser.

How rotating and resizing work

Lossless turns, resampling, empty corners

A photo is a grid of pixels lined up in rows and columns. Rotating turns that grid at an angle and copies it onto a new grid, while resizing changes the number of cells in the grid itself. That is why a turn in 90° steps only moves the cells and does not reduce quality on its own, whereas straightening by 0.1° has to calculate the values between cells.

Lossless turn 90°, 180° and 270° turns move pixels as they are, so the turn itself does not change quality No loss
Resampled turn Straightening at any other angle calculates values between pixels, which softens the picture very slightly Slight
Corners and cropping Tilting leaves empty space in the four corners. With auto crop on, the edges are trimmed and the photo gets a little smaller Smaller size
Resizing Shrinking throws pixels away and cannot be undone; enlarging invents information that was never there, so the picture blurs Irreversible
The right column shows how much of the original quality is kept

Many phone photos are stood upright only by an orientation tag (EXIF) inside the file, so they can appear sideways or upside down on some devices. This tool reads the tag and rotates what you see, then turns the pixels themselves when saving, so the result looks the same on any device. Saving as JPG or WEBP compresses the file again, though, so the format can cause a small quality difference separate from the rotation.
